Shaving is a necessity for most men and teens. Society is more accepting of those who look immaculate and presentable. It should not be taken as to imply that one must clean shaven, but rather it means that one's mustache and beard ought to be kept neat and appropriately trimmed. Also, parts of the face that are not covered by the intentional hair ought to be shaven. The fundamentals of shaving are pretty much cultured when a young boy reaches puberty stage. And this becomes the routine for the rest of his life.

Normally, there are two instruments used for shaving. One is the typical everyday razor and another, the electric razor. An electric razor can be more comfortable, and faster as compared to the commonly used plain blade. One disadvantage with the electric razor is that it cannot cut as closely to the skin as the plain blade. Therefore, for men who would like a closer and smoother shave would choose to use the everyday razor. Sometimes, you will find some people using both, first the electric razor and then the plain razor to get closer. It is often ideal for someone who is getting rid of a beard and mustache they have had for sometimes. If you have long hair, though, you should use small scissors to trim it to a length that is more manageable before you start. Getting your hairs relatively short before shaving can cushion you from pain and discomfort which comes as a result of pulling off the hair.

When you are set to begin, ensure that you rinse your face with warm water to soften your beard or mustache. The warm also water opens your skin's pores thus making it easier to get a close shave. Most men will prefer to shave immediately after a shower when their faces have little oil and pores have had plenty of time to open as well. It will also lessen the discomfort that can sometimes be linked to shaving.

If you decide to use an electric razor, do not hesitate, get started. However, if you choose to use a plain blade, you will need to apply shaving gel. Put it into your hand first and then use it to cover the sides of your face, then around your mouth, the chin, the throat, and the neck. Ideally, you should start your shaving from the sides of your face as you start as it is smoother and easier to shave from there. Be sure to follow the direction of your hair whenever you are cutting. When you are done shaving the sides of your face, you move on to the other areas that are harder to cut. You can use your other hand to try and pull your skin to smoothen it to make shaving easier.

When you finish shaving, it is advisable to use cold water to rinse your face. Cold water helps close your skin's pores rapidly thus protecting your skin from dirt, oil, and dust. Dirt and oils clog skin's pores, and zits develop as a result. Most men will use disinfectant after shaving to minimize chances of skin infections.
